Greater Sylhet Association Leicester (the “Association”) is a non-political, not-for-profit organisation. This policy explains how we handle your personal data under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

- From the membership form: full name, father’s/husband’s name, age, email, phone number, passport-style photo, UK address, and Bangladesh address.
- From the contact form: name, email, phone number, and your message.
- Technical data such as cookies and IP address, if the website uses analytics.
- Why we use it (lawful basis)
- To process and manage your membership (legitimate interests and contract).
- To verify eligibility, keep member records, and assign membership numbers.
- To contact you about events, activities and Association news.
- To meet legal and governance obligations (legal obligation).
- To reply to your enquiries (legitimate interests).
- Who sees it
Only authorised committee members. We never sell your data. We share it only with service providers who help run our website or email (e.g. hosting), or where the law requires it. - Storage and security
Data is held securely with restricted access. Photos and form data are used for membership records only. - Retention
Membership records are kept while you are a member and for 6 years afterwards for record-keeping, then deleted. Contact-form messages are kept for up to 12 months. - Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the use of your data, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email us and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). - Children
Membership is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect children’s data. - Cookies
The website may use essential and analytics cookies. You can control cookies in your browser. - Changes
We may update this policy. The latest version is always on this page.
