Greater Sylhet Association Leicester brings together everyone with roots in Sylhet, Bangladesh, living across Leicester and the wider UK. We are a non-political, not-for-profit organisation working to strengthen our culture, support one another, and give back to our homeland.

Building a Home Away from Home
At the Greater Sylhet Association Leicester UK, our journey began with a simple yet powerful dream: to ensure that no member of our community feels isolated, unsupported, or forgotten.
Rooted in Leicester and Leicestershire, our purpose is to extend a helping hand to everyone in our local area regardless of age, race, background, or belief. We believe that by bringing local people, statutory bodies, and voluntary groups together, we can create a stronger, happier, and healthier community for all.

How We Make a Difference
Every day, we work to turn our vision into real action across our neighbourhood:
Care and Relief: We actively work to relieve poverty, support the sick, and care for our elders. From practical assistance to specialised services for elderly and disabled residents, we ensure our most vulnerable community members are treated with dignity.
Guidance and Advice: Navigating daily life can be tough. We provide welfare rights advice and information, ensuring that anyone needing professional support is guided to the right places.
Education and Growth: Knowledge empowers people. We host lectures, educational classes, exhibitions, and community meetings, alongside publishing helpful resources to keep our community informed and growing together.
A Place to Belong: We maintain community facilities designed to bring people together. Through recreational, social welfare, and leisure activities, we offer spaces where people of all ages can relax, connect, and enjoy life.
Research and Understanding: To serve our community better, we conduct surveys and research to understand changing needs and share key findings that benefit everyone.
Through dedicated fundraising, grants, and community donations, we keep this work moving forward—always with transparency, heart, and a deep commitment to improving quality of life in Leicestershire.

Become a member
Membership is open to individuals aged 18 years and above who originate from the Sylhet Division of Bangladesh. Applicants must have no criminal record, must not be dependent on intoxicating substances, and must not be declared bankrupt. All applicants who meet these eligibility criteria are welcome to apply for membership.
